Staff Systems Engineer - Automated Flight Systems

203767 Requisition #

As a Staff Systems Engineer, in our Aircraft Group (AG), you will support development of automated flight systems for aircraft. You will develop and implement autopilot logic for trajectory path and vehicle performance optimization. You will also design, develop, and maintain multi-sensor-fused vehicle state estimation algorithms.

At Moog, our Staff Systems Engineers are highly qualified, self-motivated, and demonstrate a firm background and show experience in the development and implementation of Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) law schemes as well as aircraft flight dynamics and physical model development. Due to the nature of our Contracts, this individual must be a US Citizens and be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Here’s what to expect on a day to day basis:

  • Develop and implement autopilot logic for trajectory path and vehicle performance optimization
  • Design, develop, and maintain multi-sensor-fused vehicle state estimation algorithms
  • Familiarity with various Kalman filters such as extended, iterated extended, robust extended, invariant extended or unscented
  • Experience with mission planning and GPS waypoint guidance and path planning optimization
  • Experience with detect and avoid algorithms to deconflict the planned route trajectory by replanning optimal path command for guidance
  • Experience implementing SLAM and other GPS-denied guidance techniques
  • Articulate the GNC design requirements to the software team
  • Define validation, verification and certification test plans, test results, simulation models, analysis/simulation reports, problem reports, change requests, regression analysis, flight limitations/manuals, and configuration accountability
  • Develop, test, and maintain high fidelity physics-based simulation models in Matlab/Simulink
  • Verify/Validate the design and the integration of the flight control laws using simulation models in a closed loop environment with mathematical model of aircraft
  • Provide system high level requirements by means of the system description to be provided to the software team to generate software requirement for their implementation
  • Support proposal development on an as-needed basis
  • Ability to work in an agile team environment
  • Continuously develop talent while working in the flight control system team, implementing innovative design solutions that leverage advanced flight controls and automated flight technology as warranted to provide customer value

At a minimum you'll need to meet these qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience
  • Bachelor of Science require, advanced degree preferred

Additional, preferred, qualifications:

  • Able to demonstrate ability to develop GNC solutions for relevant systems
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling is a plus
  • Experience with autopilot design, tuning and system integration
  • Familiarity with aircraft guidance algorithms
  • Familiarity with detect and avoid algorithms
  • Knowledge of static and dynamic stability and flight dynamics modeling
  • Familiarity with high performance computing environments
  • Familiarity with Python scripting language
