We are looking for a Senior Electro-Mechanical-Controls Engineer for a position within the Flight Systems and Controls Group in either our Golden, CO or Mountain View, CA location. The Moog Space Access and Integrated Systems business unit within Moog Space and Defense Group specializes in passive and active vibration suppression/load alleviation products and services, precision motion control, specialized test services, motion simulation systems, specialized test structures spacecraft sub-systems, spacecraft and payload structure and propulsive accommodations.  The Moog enterprise provides engineering services and delivers products for applications ranging from space launch vehicles and satellites to aircraft, ground vehicles and semiconductor manufacturing equipment for commercial and defense customers.


The position will be a member of a team responsible for hardware and software development of unique most often 1-of-a-kind systems.  Typical systems include precision positioning systems ranging in size from a few inches in diameter to more than 50 feet in length. The selected candidate will be responsible for working side-by-side with other engineers in a team environment and will be exposed to all functional areas of engineering.

Here’s what you can expect as a Sr. Electro-Mechanical-Controls Engineer at Moog CSA ….  

  • Breaking down system-level requirements from a customer into component-level requirements, software requirements, and individual tasks
  • Support the creation software requirements documents
  • Create dynamic models to predict stresses, fatigue, performance predictions and interferences
  • Familiarity with design and modelling of control systems
  • Implementing control systems designs
  • Supporting integration and testing of motion control systems
  • Set up required tests to verify performance
  • Assemble hardware in the engineering laboratory and cleanroom environment
  • Be responsible for cradle-to-grave engineering (conceptual design, detailed design, analysis, integration, test)
  • Work closely with customers (commercial, start-up companies, space & defense)
  • Write proposals for new work and support new business development initiatives
  • Provide mentoring to younger engineers
  • Use effective time management in a distributed matrix environment as a principal level individual contributor and technical lead
  • Provide engineering services to other groups within Moog Inc.

Required Qualifications:  Support system-level electro-mechanical product life cycle engineering functions (design, analysis, simulation, assembly, debug, and validation testing) as they pertains to active precision motion systems, vibration mitigation/isolation systems, mechanical, hydraulic, electromagnetic, and pneumatic actuation devices, specialty ground-based test systems to simulate 0-G or on-orbit disturbance environments, launch thrust vector control, optical metrology and processing test systems, spacecraft attitude control, and acquisition-pointing-tracking high energy laser weapon systems.  Within each of these product areas, the successful candidate will be expected to support system integration, diagnostic and qualification testing in the engineering laboratory, cleanroom, and application environments with in-depth experience with sensor, actuator, and electronics design and real-time performance simulation and validation processes.

You’ll need:

  • US citizenship is a requirement for this position.
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D in Engineering with emphasis on mechatronic systems
  • 7+ years of design, analysis, modeling, and testing experience
  • Comfortable with CAD tools, FEA tools, MatLab, and Simulink
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills


Preferred Qualifications:  Electro-Mechanical systems experience.  Hands-on approach to problem solving.  Electromagnetic, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic actuation design experience, control-structure interaction in the presence of flexible plant dynamics, and sensor/electronics dynamic response modeling and simulation.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
