Moog is expanding our office in Albuquerque.  We have secured many long-term projects driving this growth.  Moog has designed and manufactured components and systems for satellites and launch vehicles for over 60 years. Moog continues to make significant investment in propulsion facilities, metal additive manufacturing, avionics and innovative in-space delivery systems.

As a Senior Design Engineer at Moog, you’ll need extensive experience in creating successful designs of electro-hydraulic, electro-mechanical, electro-hydrostatic and/or electro-pneumatic servo control systems or similar systems to be successful. Your broad background in digital and analog electronic design, including circuit design and analysis, FPGA and ASIC design and verification, and circuit integration, debug, and control theory is essential. You’ll plan and conduct efforts requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. 

In this position you’ll be expected to:

  • Develop new product requirements through consulting with customers and sales
  • Validate conceptual problem solutions by performing trade studies and analyses
  • Be a key contributor to a design proposal team in preparing a design, estimating costs, and assisting in writing the technical volume
  • Operate effectively as a key element in a team of creative, independent individuals, soliciting and being sensitive to design feedback
  • Represent Moog in a manner consistent with its technical reputation
  • Create reliable designs through a comprehensive experimental development test program
  • Document designs, analyses, and test results with accurate and concise reports
  • Consult on new product and market development efforts
  • Maintain currency with electronic technology, industry design requirements (Military, FAA, NASA, etc.), and modern design implementation and analysis tools
  • When applicable supervise subordinate engineers and project/product engineering technicians.

In addition to the above experience you’ll need:

  • A minimum of 10+ years of Aerospace Electrical Engineering Power Design experience.
  • At least 10 years of relevant electrical engineer and FPGA and/or ASIC design experience. Greater than 20 years is a plus
  • AC and DC Converter / Inverter design experience in a radiation hardened environment and experience in designing magnetics (inductors, transformers, etc.)
  • Motor Drive Design experience (sine or vector drive, Six Step, Induction)
  • Working knowledge of designing for EMI / EMC and MIL-STD-461
  • Experience with Hi-Rel EEE Component Selection / Design / Screening requirements.
  • Experience with FPGA/ASIC VHDL design. Experience with other design or verification languages is a plus
  • Experience with VHDL based self-checking FPGA/ASIC test benches
  • Experience with code coverage metric generation and back-annotated (post place and route) simulation
  • Experience with FPGA constraint generation and timing closure
  • Knowledge of design for a space radiation environment tolerant hardware and man-rated reliability design processes
  • Experience with board-level electrical engineering design for military and space applications
  • Experience with FPGA/ASIC designs for control loops and fix point integer math
  • Experience designing with and interfacing FPGAs/ASICs to ADCs, DACs, LVDTs, temperature sensors, and common standard communication busses
  • Experience with Microsemi, Modelsim, and Synplify design tools. Experience with other vendor tools is a plus
  • Experience with configuration control and change management tools and processes
  • Experience generating formal design documentation and generating and delivering formal presentations to a customer
  • Experience working with customer specifications and parsing requirement to the FPGA/ASIC design. Experience with the DOORs tool is a plus
  • Experience performing formal verification of the design to each customer requirement “shall”
  • Experience integrating FPGAs/ASICs with the circuit card level and box-level designs in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with qualification testing over military and/or space environments
  • Experience with schedule tools and cost account management duties is a plus
  • Experience designing for motion control and motor control applications is a plus
  • Experience working at Moog or familiarity with Moog Space and Defense Systems motion control designs is a plus
  • Experience with FPGA/ASIC design lifecycle processes and coding standards is a plus
  • Candidate must be a United States Citizen that can be qualified to access ITAR classified information. Active or past qualification for government security clearance such as secret is a plus
