We are looking for a Source Inspector to support Supply Quality Engineering Department. This position is located at our aerospace manufacturing plant in Torrance, CA.

Source Inspector’s primary function is to perform quality assurance inspection on-site at supplier facilities and provide inspection results back to the cognizant Moog function.  This activity primarily involves the final or in-process inspection processes in accordance with inspection plans determined by Moog.  The types of products will be of varying from simple components to complex items such as machined manifolds and electronic assemblies.

  • Perform a wide variety of mechanical and visual inspections on purchased parts and/or assemblies.
  • Witness assembly and test functions as required by inspection requirements (including welded and soldered components) for compliance to engineering drawing requirements or established standards.
  • Utilize appropriate inspection equipment (height gages, gage blocks, sine-plates, and indicators) to verify dimensions, angles, radii, contours, locations, surface finishes, concentricity, hardness, and plating properties.
  • Review AS9102 FAI reports and statistical process control (SPC) results for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
  • Provide input to Moog Engineering to support the establishment and/or maintenance of inspection plans and/or inspection techniques.
  • Utilize basic SPC techniques as determined by inspection plans.
  • Proactively work with suppliers to anticipate inspection issues that may arise and initiate steps to determine inspection equipment, techniques, and sample sizes

At a minimum, you’ll need to meet these Basic Qualifications: 

  • Associates/Technical degree in the field of metrology, mechanical engineering, quality, manufacturing engineering, or other applicable field and greater than 2 years of direct inspection experience.
  • As an alternative to an Associate degree, greater than 6 years direct experience is required
  • Demonstrated understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and & Tolerancing is required.
  • Able to travel 75% of the Time
  • Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder)

Preferred Qualifications Include: 

  • Electronics assembly and solder certification is preferred.
  • A strong background in manual mechanical inspection is required, additionally CMM experience is preferred.
