Senior Systems Engineering Specialist

As a Senior Systems Engineering Specialist, in our Aircraft Group (AG), you’ll be responsible for rapid prototyping, development testing, integration testing and verification testing of complex electro-hydraulic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, hydro-mechanical and electro-pneumatic components and systems that will become the new products of Moog.


Our Senior Specialists are also responsible for specification of the required test system(s) needed to execute the tests often involving substantial mechanical, electrical and software design. Our Senior Specialists also act as the mentor for our Systems Engineering Specialists.


Under the technical direction of a Systems Engineer, the Senior Specialist provides assistance to all aspects of flight control system lab definition, integration and qualification testing.


A major contribution of the Senior Systems Engineering Specialist is in the requirements and design of the development, integration and verification test systems. Specific to this task, the Specialist ensures that the test system is applicable to the program milestones and then fully integrates the test system when the components are completed. This final integration may involve writing software for the hardware in the loop test system.  Finally, the Senior Systems Engineering Specialist is expected to continually investigate and develop with suppliers and the Systems Engineers any new technologies that would improve the overall efficiency of the system prototyping and development stage.

Here is what to expect on a day-to-day basis:
  • Perform hands-on systems test rig integration & test activities
  • Work alongside supporting organizations and the Systems Engineering team, driving the development and assembly/integration of our systems test rigs (both hydraulic and electrical systems)
  • Coordinate development test programs, often technically directing supporting development/production technicians
  • Implement and operate system test procedures and scripts
  • Evaluate discrepant hardware/software and development test results. Formulate recommended courses of action
  • Communication with Systems Engineering regarding implementation aspects of the system
  • Perform root cause and corrective action; resolution of problems with test equipment and facilities
  • Inventory management, calibration, and repair of test equipment, cabling, and hydraulic assemblies 
  • Ensure that complete and accurate test program data and records are generated and maintained
  • Operate as a contributing member in a team of creative, independent individuals
  • Represent Moog in a manner consistent with its technical reputation

At a minimum, you will need to meet these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in an Engineering discipline with 4+ years as technical experience in Systems and/or Component Integration and Test
  • Associate’s in an Engineering discipline with 10+ years’ experience in Systems and/or Component Integration and Test
  • As an alternative to a degree, 12+ years of technical experience in Systems and or Component Integration and Test
  • Experience in the MATLAB, Simulink and Python software programming environments
  • A level of experience working with dSPACE products is desired
  • Communication skills suitable for effective oral and written dealings with the technical community including customers and vendors
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance

Travel Requirements: Travel to other Moog sites, customer sites (US based) is required – 10-25% 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Self-starting instincts, an aptitude for creative synthesis, and the ability to utilize and quickly learn advanced design and/or analysis techniques
  • Active DOD Secret clearance
  • Working MATLAB and/or Python knowledge
  • EMI test experience
  • dSpace experience
