200731 Requisition #

Would you like to be part of an entrepreneurial environment within a Fortune 1000 company?  That’s exactly the type of environment you will get when you join Moog in our new Huntsville location.  You will be working with a small team of approximately 20 other team members, across business lines, to establish Moog in the Huntsville area as the “go to” company for motion control related challenges.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for development of, and assisting in the selling of complex electrohydraulic, electromechanical, hydromechanical and electropneumatic components and systems that will become the new products of Moog, Inc. You will plan and conduct efforts requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard and nonstandard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. The Senior Project Engineer independently devises new approaches for the problems encountered and plans and coordinates the work of others.

In the early stages of a new program, the Senior Project Engineer will consult with the customer, establish the problem statement, conceive of potential hardware solutions to the problem, often through extensive trade studies, and then create a successful technical proposal. This phase is critical in that it establishes the basis for future design, and for contract negotiations.

During the design and development phase the Sr. Project Engineer will guide the evolution of the conceptual design, and serve as focal point for customer communications. You will be responsible for technical project planning and for development testing.  The primary concern is for system or component performance and integration, so you will initiate or carry out whatever analysis tasks are necessary to ensure specification performance compliance. These could include computer dynamic modeling, error analysis, transient failure behavior analysis, and failure modes and effects analysis TMEA). The Project Engineer is also responsible for managing engineering project budgets and schedules through close coordination with the program manager.

The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for communicating with the involved Division support personnel, keeping them informed of progress and educating them on the operation and performance of the design. You must frequently solicit their aid and support to achieve difficult schedule objectives.

The incumbent's responsibilities may include the direct supervision of up to four subordinate engineers and/or project or product-engineering technicians. This would include setting their workload and priorities, counseling and conducting performance appraisals.

To be successful in this role, an individual will have a BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical is preferred) probably an advanced degree, with a depth of understanding achieved through experience in the design, analysis, and development of complex electrohydraulic, electromechanical, or electropneumatic servomechanisms. In addition, he/she must have a proven record of successful development programs working as a part of a project team.  You will often be seen by customers as the responsible technical representative of Moog, you must be able to communicate fluently to a wide variety of audiences.
