Scrum Master

Blacksburg, VA


We are seeking a skilled Scrum Master to join our team. The Scrum Master is a champion of the Agile Manifesto and Lean-Agile principles and serves as the protector of the health of the team. In this position, you will be focused on timely delivery of quality products that provide exceptional value to the business. 



Here’s what you can expect in this role:


  • Work with the Portfolio Manager and Development Lead to plan and execute the development and project backlogs/sprints.

  • Work closely with internal Business Analysts, Developers and Business Process Owners to move development objects efficiently through the Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Work closely with IT Project Managers on execution of development related project activities and adherence to project schedules.

  • Coach, train and lead others, internal and external to the Scrum Team, in the scrum framework and processes.

  • Maintain adherence to the Priority Governance Process (PGP) and minimize scope creep.  Assist in product backlog prioritization and scheduling in accordance with the PGP.

  • Protect the team from internal or external distractions.  Manage and facilitate appropriate interactions with external teams, clients and partners.

  • Actively work to eliminate impediments that are blocking the team from making progress toward sprint goals, troubleshooting and resolving issues quickly.

  • Drive relentless improvement of the delivery process to optimize team velocity, build high-performing team dynamics and deliver a continuous flow of products that add value to the business.

  • Develop and maintain metrics to monitor and direct continuous improvement of the agile process, execution, scheduling and delivery.

  • Facilitate teamwork across multiple functions and sites, nationally and internationally.

  • Document, maintain and communicate agile processes and work flows. 




    Here’s what you need to bring to our team:


Basic Qualification:


  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred in the computer science or engineering scope), or equivalent education plus experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an agile/scum environment.

  • High level of proficiency in Jira.

  • Must be able to quickly assimilate necessary knowledge of a particular system or process with which they may not be familiar.

  • Must be excellent at listening, giving and receiving instructions, asking questions, and seeking clarification.  

  • Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle  

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills

  • Strong decision-making and leadership skills

  • Must be delivery and execution focused; works to deadlines and drives schedules

  • Ability to manage multiple activities and projects concurrently

  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate teaming, communication and collaboration across all Business and IT functions

  • Familiarity with programs such as Project, SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in Organizational Change Management

  • Project Management or Agile certification from an industry recognized body

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Familiarity with IT standards or Methodologies such as ITIL, TOGAF, COBIT, SAF, SSAE SOC2, ISO 27001, PCI, HIPAA/HITECH, NIST, CSA/CCM

  • Experience with complex, enterprise projects that span countries
