Moog Space & Defense Group (SDG) continues to see growth in our rocket engine and propulsion system business that include spacecraft, missile, launch vehicle and space exploration markets. Primary applications are mono-propellant and bi-propellant rocket engines and propulsion systems for strategic missile, LEO, GEO and exploration missions with thrust ranges from 0.2 lbf to >500 lbf. The design engineering position covers the full product life cycle from supporting business capture thru product delivery.

Key Responsibilities in this position are…

  • System Design

    • Overall propulsion system trades and design in support of propulsion subsystems and systems.

    • Performance of trade studies across different propulsion technologies necessary to achieve customer mission success.

  • Mechanical Design / Design Analysis

    • Complete the overall engine design necessary to support the customer’s required mission scenarios. This includes the design of the injector and nozzle/chamber as well as establishing the thruster valve requirements.

    • Application engineer Moog standard products to meet new mission requirements.

    • Support the detailed analyses for the rocket engine including combustion, thermal, structural, dynamic and plume analyses. Depending on the project, you may complete these required analyses.

    • Plan the overall test campaign necessary to demonstrate compliance to customer requirements.

    • Mentor and coach other design engineers in the design of various engine/system applications.

  • Project Engineering

    • Support or lead successful proposals as the design engineer. This includes solution definition, requirements verification and technical compliance summary. Support the engineering cost estimation.

    • Lead the understanding of the customer requirements to ensure Moog’s solution meets the customer expectations.

    • Lead and coordinate the verification and validation approaches associated with the qualification of the subject hardware including support of the build and hot fire test of the hardware.

Minimum Requirements to be considered…

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 15+ years of in-space rocket engine design experience.

  • Due to the type of work completed by SDG, US citizenship or US person’s status is required. A security clearance may be required.

  • The primary site for engine design and development work is at our Niagara Falls location. This is the preferred site for the engine design engineer. Consideration will be given to other Moog locations in Golden CO, Mountain View CA, Chatsworth CA, Gilbert AZ or Huntsville AL. Extensive travel to Niagara Falls will be required if the individual resides in one of these other sites. Moog SDG has engineering resources in several locations in the United States. The design engineer will work collaboratively across these sites to meet our customer’s need.
