Moog Broad Reach produces spaceflight hardware and software solutions, integrating vehicle design, component design and engineering services for aerospace, scientific, commercial and military customers on four continents.  From proposal phase to ground testing, launch and on-orbit operations, we support each mission as scientific, technical and operational facilitators. On the product side, our radiation-hardened avionics and electronics include GPS/GNSS receivers, science payloads, motor controllers, high-quality flight-critical components, and single board computers powered by the next-generation BRE440 “system-on-a-chip” – the world’s highest-performance radiation-hardened microprocessor.

With global product demand and mission criteria moving toward integrated commercial partnerships, lower costs and higher performance hardware and software requirements, Broad Reach is positioned for growth in the new era of aerospace development. Our team of seasoned architects and engineers is dedicated to partnership with our customers for continued growth and success

Performs difficult and non‑routine manufacturing engineering work requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Working as part of a Manufacturing Engineering Group, the primary area of responsibility is supporting and developing production programs, processes, operation sheets and tooling for the manufacturing electronic assembly lab and SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Lab.  Secondary responsibilities include but not limited to acting as backup for the Manufacturing Manager, supporting Manufacturing Readiness Reviews, Managing Manufacturing Activities, attending and making decisions concerning manufacturing.

This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager and acts as a backup for the Manufacturing Manager as required.  Alternately, it may take technical direction from the Operations Section Head.  This position may have direct reports.

Applying learned engineering techniques, the incumbent independently evaluates, selects and applies manufacturing engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to the more difficult manufacturing engineering problems. He/She uses judgment in developing, adapting and modifying manufacturing engineering procedures and processes.

In pre‑production and production phases of a program, the Manufacturing Engineer Group Leader will determine manufacturing procedures, establish operation sequencing, prepare tooling and gauging lists, prepare and prove out SMT Line Programs and write detailed operation sheets to produce complex electronic assemblies and sub‑assemblies to meet engineering drawings. They may also prepare engineered or estimated time standards for setup and run hours for each operation.

He/She may prepare cost estimates for new proposals. From time to time the incumbent may be assigned special projects by the Manufacturing Manager and/or Section Head which are of a difficult nature and require engineering creativity.

The incumbent provides technical support to electronic manufacturing solving the more difficult problems and processes associated with the parts his/her group is responsible for. These problems may arise for any number of reasons such as tooling, SMT Line Processes and electronic assembly processes (including solder profiling). The solution of these problems may require the Manufacturing Engineer Group Leader's decision alone, or could result in contacting and working with, Moog Product or Design Engineers, Quality Assurance personnel, M & P Engineers, Inspectors, Production supervision, Purchasing, Production Scheduling, or Moog vendors. As a result, the Manufacturing Engineer Group Leader must not only possess the human relations skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of people, but must also have the initiative to contact and coordinate with other groups when a problem solution so requires.

A significant area of responsibility for the Manufacturing Engineer Group Leader lies in the area of concurrent engineering and executing Manufacturing Manager responsibilities when the Manufacturing Manager is not available or is otherwise pre-occupied. . The incumbent will be expected to play a major role in coordinating efforts amongst various development engineering groups, Product Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering aimed at generating highly effective and more easily produced products.

The incumbent will be required to use computer systems in preparing operation sheets, SMT machine programs, tooling designs and standards. For training and development purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher level.

The background required to perform this position would include a B.S. Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 5 years manufacturing engineering experience in electronics assembly manufacturing.  Additional seasoned experience in manufacturing engineering that would be equivalent to what is learned in a degreed program would be an acceptable alternative to the B. S. Degree requirement. Knowledge of NASA-STD-8739, J-STD-001 and/or IPC610 is preferred.

When the Manufacturing Manager is not available or is otherwise pre-occupied execute Manufacturing Manager responsibilities, set priorities for the Manufacturing Engineering Group and Electronics Technician Team
