Job Summary:


The Manufacturing Engineer – Metrology/ Measurement Lead will act as a subject matter expert on metrology, measurement systems and associated processes. Inspection and measurement plays a significant part in any production system and it’s critical that Moog and our supply chain partners can trust data from measurement systems.

 

Around 70% of Moog product is manufactured in the external supply chain, the purpose of this role is to lead activity, in collaboration with suppliers, to ensure capable measurement systems are in place and sustained.

 

The Manufacturing Engineer – Metrology/ Measurement Lead will report to the Global Manufacturing Engineering Manager and shall work in a cross functional team environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Be a subject matter expert in the field of metrology
  • Acceptable correlation between supplier and Moog receipt inspection
  • Coach, train and mentor suppliers and Moog personnel on Measurement System Analysis
  • Communicate across the engineering, commodity and quality teams on topics related to metrology and measurement technology
  • Develop robust internal metrology procedures
  • Ability to develop measurement techniques and procedures for complex, tight tolerance aerospace components
  • Work on cross-functional projects / teams to deliver technology solutions for the business
  • Acceptable capability levels
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality and supply chain partners as required to ensure measurement systems achieve;
    • Acceptable capability levels

    • Acceptable correlation between supplier and Moog receipt inspection


Basic Qualifications:


The background required to perform this position would include a B.S. Degree (ME or IE preferred) and a minimum of 3 years manufacturing engineering experience.  Additional seasoned experience in manufacturing engineering that would be equivalent to what is learned in a degreed program would be an acceptable alternative to the B. S. Degree requirement.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline (engineering / manufacturing/ metrology)
  • Five (5) years’ metrology experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Expert in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Strong and demonstrable problem solving and analytical skills
  • Accomplished in MSA including attribute agreement analysis as well as Gage R&R
  • Knowledge of CMM programming
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in cross functional teams to tight deadlines and often under pressure
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry standards and regulations, particularly AS13003 and AS9145 advantageous but not necessary
  • Formal continuous improvement qualification (lean sigma green or black belt) advantageous but not necessary
  • High degree of numeracy and knowledge of statistical techniques is a must
  • Flexible and prepared to travel, including internationally, on a frequent basis
