Moog Orrville’s Inspection Department is looking for a Lead Inspector

Responsible for the daily planning, organization, assignments, and training of inspection personnel; as well as the physical facility, gages, tools, equipment, etc. related to the inspection function. Technical expert related to tools, fixtures, gages, and methods in performing detail and receiving inspection for all mechanical and electrical parts, subassemblies, and assemblies at the site. Technical expert related to the creation of CMM programs.



·         Assess risk in various inspection and manufacturing processes by assessing process inputs of man, material, machine, method, measurement, and environment. 

·         Investigations into variation of these process inputs has a direct impact on the uniformity and conformity of product to engineering specifications.  

·         Exercises problem solving and interpersonal skills to directly make process improvements and resolve complex quality problems.

·         Plan, provide and execute best inspection techniques, training for and technical assistance to the site. 

·         Work from approved inspection plans, engineering drawings, purchase orders, operation sheets and specifications.

·         Use a variety of precision measuring instruments to verify compliance on dimensions, angles, radii, contours, holes, surface finishes, concentricity, hardness, material and plating.

·         Simple to complex setups on surface plates using height gauge, gauge blocks, sine plates and indicators.

·         Utilize innovative methods and techniques, process qualification techniques and procedures and process improvement projects in the department to ensure optimum quality.

·         The incumbent is a critical link between Operations, Quality and various other Engineering functions. As such, he or she must demonstrate willingness to assist in order to find a positive problem resolution and must maintain a high level of integrity.

·         Receiving, first piece and final inspection, process evaluation of defective hardware and process evaluation of new program conversions.

·         The incumbent will assist inspectors and machinists in the usage, calibration and care of inspection equipment, interpretation of blueprints and other quality related activities.


*Incumbent may travel to suppliers to conduct source inspections or coordinate inspection   methodology.

*The incumbent will report to the Site Quality Manager.




·         GDT and advanced blueprint reading.

·         Personal computer (excel, word) knowledge.

·         A minimum of 10 years inspection experience, especially mechanical inspection capability. 

·         Extensive experience in CMM programming.



Preferred Qualifications….

·         PC-DMIS strongly preferred.

·         Quality Inspector Certification (CQI) is desired but not required. 

·         Prior supervisory and leadership experience.
