Key Expertise

  • A minimum of a NEBOSH General Certificate and at least 5 years EHS experience are essential for this role.
  • BSc/BEng in engineering, environmental, chemical, H&S or related degree
  • Experience working in manufacturing/engineering environments
  • Experience with writing clear, concise procedures, processes and other documents that are part of a structured management system
  • Experience with performing compliance audits and the ability to prioritize findings
  • Demonstrates competency and efficient use of Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • Ability to identify hazards, assess risk and document requirements to eliminate, reduce and minimize the hazards/risks.
  • Capabilities/competencies in managing chemicals and wastes
  • Experience with responding to, cleaning and reporting chemical spills
  • Able to explain core requirements of ISO14001 and Health & Safety Management Systems and have experience with the implementation and management of these.
  • Working knowledge of PUWER, LOLER, DSEAR, PSSR and other manufacturing/engineering focused EHS legislation.
  • Experience with generation of training material and delivery of training to various levels of employees and management.

 

 

 

Job Summary

Moog are looking to recruit an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Engineer to join our team based in Reading.  We are a low volume, high value manufacturer of electromechanical components which provide solutions across a diverse range of applications from Aerospace and Defence to Industrial.  We’re focused on the customer and for us this means designing and manufacturing complex mechanical products that are often bespoke and high profile.

As EH&S Engineer you will work under the general direction of the site Quality and EHS Manager ensuring the site remains compliant with applicable UK regulations.  This is a hands on role and you will be working independently making decisions that will have a direct impact on the compliance status of the site and business group.  From time to time you will be expected to assist site managers and supervisors with various compliance related initiatives or gaps.  You will provide technical and regulatory guidance to all site personnel and process owners and supervisors. You will assist in the review and interpretation of policies, procedures and training programmes along with the coordination and management of the site’s emergency planning.  Providing technical support during internal and external compliance audits you will ensure actions are responded to and corrected in a timely manner.   Assist with the coordination and management of the Sites’ emergency planning; including responding to site chemical, environmental and/or safety emergencies.  You will be a site emergency coordinator (and SME) in emergencies involving hazardous materials releases or other safety/environmental impacting emergencies.

Working with programme management and engineering you will provide environmental and safety guidance to support customer contract terms and conditions. This may require the creation and implementation of additional programmes relating to EH&S. In addition to this you will be involved in the collection and calculation of environmental and H&S data for the production of various reports and metrics.  You will coordinate and support obtaining any necessary Environmental or Health and Safety consents, permits, licenses or permissions to operate the Reading site in compliance with EH&S legislation.

To be successful within this role you will be able to assimilate information from various sources, assess it applicability and value to the Company and to make recommendations for action.  You will need to utilise your diplomacy skills when facilitating problem solving between parties with differing opinions to achieve a successful outcome.  You will need well developed interpersonal and communication skills in order to lead and build solid working relationships at all levels across the business. You will have a high degree of personal integrity as your compliance decisions directly impact employee safety as well as site and company compliance/liability. You will be confident in alerting any unsafe practice or process that required emergency action to be taken to the relevant personnel.  Above all you will possess the ability to adapt to the culture and philosophy employed at Moog; you will be provide support, guidance and council whilst maintaining the core values of our unique working environment.
