Moog’s motion control technology supports a variety of markets and applications, from commercial aircraft cockpits, to power generation turbines, to Formula One racing, to medical infusion systems. The company’s Space and Defense segment provides controls for satellites, space vehicles, launch vehicles, armored combat vehicles, tactical and strategic missiles, security and surveillance, and other defense applications; and gun aiming, stabilization, and automatic ammunition loading for armored combat vehicles.

Within the Space and Defense Group, MoogS3 (Sensors and Surveillance Systems) is a dynamic business unit focused on the development of high-quality, scalable physical-security solutions for a variety of established and emerging markets. Our core products include ruggedized pan and tilt positioners, camera systems, tripods, and video accessories.

We’re currently looking for a Custom Products (CP) Project Engineer, to spearhead the execution of our custom products pipeline. This individual will report to the Platforms Manager and work closely with product management, business development, engineering, procurement, and production teams.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop new product requirements through consulting with customers and sales personnel.
  • Lead and manage the successful launch of all custom products by collaborating with business development (BD) and product teams to gather specifications and ensuring the project objectives are met within scope, schedule, and budget, while exceeding quality objectives and gaining customer satisfaction and acceptance.
  • Lead technical discussions with customers and key stakeholders and provide technical support to BD managers to establish clear product specifications and performance requirements. Support BD team with product demonstrations.
  • Lead the systematic capture, development and documentation of fully verifiable requirements into a total systems solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule, and cost constraints through consulting with customers, staff and sales personnel.
  • Facilitate design reviews, interface with cross-functional teams to ensure design reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability, while meeting program milestones.
  • Establish and monitor engineering project budgets and schedules.
  • Validate conceptual problem solutions by performing trade studies and analyses.
  • Prepare successful proposal designs, cost estimates, and shoulder the responsibility for writing the technical volume for proposals.
  • Serve as the project engineer of custom product development efforts, i.e. project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and closing.
  • Represent Moog in a manner consistent with its technical reputation.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of industry related experience developing electromechanical products.
  • Minimum 2 years of project/program management experience.
  • Demonstrated project/product development leadership skills, a continued desire to utilize these skills and the ability to mentor and coach other engineers to achieve product initiatives on complex development and production projects.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and interpret system level schematics and drawings and understand limitations of design modifications.
  • Must possess outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel to other Moog sites, customer sites, and trade shows (primarily US). Up to 15%.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Progressive design experience with electrical systems, electro-mechanical systems, and/or positioning systems.
  • Familiarity with Military Standards.
  • Knowledge of security and surveillance systems including different visible and thermal cameras/lenses, daylight and IR illuminators, and laser range finders.
