Our Space & Defense Group in East Aurora, NY is hiring for an Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer).


As an entry level Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer) you will perform routine manufacturing engineering work requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures.


Working as part of a Manufacturing Engineering Group, the primary area of responsibility is supporting developing and mature production programs in the fabrication shop with effective design of tools, fixtures, gages, procedures, process improvements.

 

This position is concerned and focused with the design of tools, jigs, fixtures, gages and process documentation which are used to manufacture and test items produced by Moog.  The Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer) must collaborate with other functions to obtain additional information to effectively accomplish the design.  On major projects, the requesting party frequently performs design calculations and functionality checks the results.


In order to perform this position, The Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer) must have a working knowledge of precision machine shop practices; cutting tools, jig and fixture construction, gaging practices and understand various machining processes and machine tools.


It is also expected that the Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer) will make recommendations for improvements on fixtures, parts, drawings and manufacturing techniques.

 

The Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer) provides technical support to the production shop to help solve problems and improve processes associated with the parts or fixtures and manufacturing equipment. These problems may arise for any number of reasons such as tooling, machine tools, gauging, heat treating, and plating. The solution of these problems may require the Associate Manufacturing Engineers (Tool Designer’s decision alone or could result in contacting and working with other members of the Manufacturing Engineering Department, Moog Product or Design Engineers, Quality Assurance personnel, Materials and Process Engineers, Inspectors, Production supervision, Purchasing, Production Scheduling, or Moog vendors.


Responsibilities to include…

 

  • S/he will handle the design and procurement of tooling and fixturing
  • Coordinate with various departments and team members to assure the most effective design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.     

  • Assure compatibility of engineering drawings and specifications with manufacturing and fabrication capabilities by reviewing drawing and making suggestions for changes and revisions to enhance producibility.           

  • Coordinate with various departments and team members to assure the most effective design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.     

  • Estimate tooling and Fixturing for proposal efforts. 

  • Assists in the conduct of studies directed towards more efficient manufacturing of fixturing. Includes making recommendations for new or changes in existing equipment, processes, materials and designs.          

  • Solves shop floor problems associated with parts and designs the Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer) is responsible for.   

  • Associate Manufacturing Engineer (Tool Designer) will be expected to use computer systems to aid in producing N/C programs.


    Minimum Requirements to be considered…
  • Bachelor of Science Degree, ME or IE preferred with a minimum of Two (2) years’ experience

  • Additional experience in tooling and fixture design that would be equivalent to what is learned in a degreed program would be an acceptable alternative to the B. S. Degree requirement.
  • Required knowledge of a 3D modeling software (i.e.; Nx, Creo, solid work) is required.
